Koroneburg

Sat, May 27, 2006 - 11:09 PM

I spent the whole day in Corona, at the Koroneburg European Old World Festival. This is a very small faire, very laid back. It's quite different than Southern, in that it's more out of the way, far less crowded and it's permanent.

I took 1,152 pictures plus 43 black and white pictures. I saw lots of people from Southern, both patrons and participants.

Okay, so I arrived at the faire early, since they allow those in costumes to get in at 10:30am (one half hour in advance of everyone else). As is usual with these smaller faires, there are very few patrons in the first couple of hours of opening. Thus, when I got into the place, I was practically alone except for the guilds, performers and shop keepers. It was almost spooky.

In that first 30 minutes before opening, I was able to walk the entire faireground and scope it out. I noticed three small stages, food courts and perhaps a hundred or so shops.

The 11:00am opening was marked by the firing of the canon - a real canon. I was surprised by how loud the thing was when it went off.

I spent the rest of the day wandering around. I met some friends, had some excellent conversations and saw some pretty ladies. I think the high point was the joust. There were two combatents, and I noticed the fighting was more spontaneoous than Southern ... and a bit more viscious.

All in all, a very lazy day at a very laid back faire.

I'm so jealous! I spent the day tearing down our guildsite. There's nothing left there anymore, but a palate of building materials that they will take away and store for the rest of the year.
