Okay, after some work on the budget and shuffling of priorities, I believe that I will be able to go to Florida in October after all. This trip is important to me for various reasons, so I'm very happy that it looks like I'll be able to work things out.
It's funny the things that can be worked out when something is important. This morning I was in despair because I believed that I had to cancel a very important trip and there was no way to work it out. But as I went through the day I realized this is important to me so perhaps I can work it out after all.
I believe we need to go through life decide what is important and not let things get in the way. Yes those things always seem important at the time, and it's so easy to postpone 'till later, and then it just never gets done.
I have no way to know what life will bring up between now and October. Perhaps something else will come up and I'll have to postpone anyway. But at the moment it looks like I worked it out so that I can go and do what I need to do.
One of the reasons why I travel so much and visit the Renaissance fairs and I am starting to learn to do things like dance and jump out of an airplane and go up in a hot air balloon and is I don't want to be 90 years old and look back and and think "boy, all the stuff I could have done". Before I die, I want to visit all of the national parks in the United States; I want to personally visit the battlefield where Alexander the great beat Darius the fourth; I want to touch the marble in the Acropolis in Greece; I want to peer into one of the great Pyramids; I want to climb and see Machu Picchu; I want to skydive; I want to climb to the top of Mount Gorgonio and Mount Jacinto; I want to see the Ross ice sheet in Antarctica; I want to be terrifed on a raft going down the Colorado River and see the wonders of the Grand Canyon; I want to walk through the palace of Sargon II; I want to see the Himalayas and I want to taste different foods smell different smells and understand different cultures.
I know that sounds like a dream, a wild dream, but then if you look at my web site Roseworks.com, you'll see that I've traveled a lot of places in the last couple of years. And even with that and a full-time job and still have time to visit many different Renaissance fairs, and lots of other things as well.
So as I went through the day I thought about that and finally said to myself, "you know what, Richard? I am not going to let life defeat me". So I worked it out, and I think I'll be able to go to Florida in October after all.

I got ya beat... I went SCUBA diving through rapids on the Colorado. (I don't think they let ya do that anymore) Remind me some day to tell you the story about being pinned against the back wall of an underwater cave by the pressure of 20 fire hoses, with 10 minutes of air....
