Universal Studios

Sat, July 1, 2006 - 3:28 PM

Today is the start of a week long vacation, and I began by taking the subway up to Universal Studios. I have a year long pass with no blackout dates, and it was time to put that to good use.

The subway trip was uneventful, although it was packed. I like taking the subway occasionally (this is the red line), as it gives me a chance to people watch. Everyone seemed very introverted today...

Arrived at Universal about 9am, just after it opened, and headed towards teh Van Helsing attraction. This is more or less an attempt at a walk-through haunted house, and it's not bad, but compared with Knott's scary farm, the Queen Mary Ghost ship and some of the other Halloween haunted houses, this is minor league. Still fun though.

Next was the waterworld attraction. This is based on the movie "Waterworld", which was a huge box office bomb (and a pretty stinky movie as well). I sat down in the fourth seat back in the center, deep in the "soak zone". It was an exceptionally hot day and I wanted to get cooled down.

I got soaked, and I had some great fun baiting the "soakers". Royally soaked. So wet it took a couple of hours, even in the heat, to dry off. The show is actually pretty good, albeit a bit short, and combined with the soaking it's fun.

Now over to the animal planet attraction, then Shrek 4d (very cool show) and Terminater 3D (another cool show).

By the time it was the height of the afternoon and blazing hot, so I decided to hop back on the subway and make my way home.

All in all, a nice way to spend a Saturday, although no where near as much fun as a Renaissance Faire.

You mean "Waterworld" right? www.imdb.com/title/tt0114898/

Anways Cass and I used to have yearlong pass to that place. It's a nice get-a-way from the other theme parks becuase it's never really that crowded. Glad you had a good time! What... no Tram Tour? That's the best part?

Oops, changed it to "waterworld". Thanks. I didn't go on the tram this time. It was too hot and I went on it last time... the place was quite crowded due to the 4th weekend.

Yes, I also love me some Universal Studios (like Mike said). We'd take Eris (the 8 year old we babysit) there every couple of weekends to break the monotany of watching movies. Her fave was Back To The Future and seeing Wolverine. She gave him a pez candy once. Oh, it was adorable.
