Relaxing

Sun, May 28, 2006 - 7:17 PM

After eight terrible weeks of grabbing the "work tiger" by the tail and getting slashed a few times (the scars from this will last for along time), I've managed to calm things down a bit. My cranky computers (hundreds of them) have behaved themselves all weekend long! Today, Sunday, I took some badly needed time to just be by myself. I did take a short trip to the Huntington Library, but other than that I just lazed around, doing not much of anything.

I decided to treat myself and went out to eat at a local restaurant. I brought along a book and just sat there, reading, while I slowly ate. The place was deserted, I guess because of the holiday, so I didn't have to feel guilty about keeping a table for a couple of hours.

When I got home I stopped at the top of the stairs. I listened, and heard heavy breathing. It was my little dog, a Pomoranian named "Hades", sniffing under the door to find out who was there. I opened the door and he jumped at me, then did a little dance all over the apartment. The two cats, Tabby and Baby, came out from wherever they had been hiding all day, and rubbed my legs, purring.

Hmm, I thought, maybe life is not so bad after all. I've got some good friends, including several that I made at the faire this year, a good job, enough money to satisfy me, and I have my health.

I smiled, watching my dog chase his own tail with excitement, seemingly saying "Hey! Dad's home! Isn't this great!"

This is going to be a good week.
