A day with the Belles of Bedlam

Sun, July 30, 2006 - 6:30 PM

On Saturday the Belles of Bedlam had some activities planned. They announced in various places that they were putting together a DVD, and invited anyone interested to attend two events: a childrens show at Felicita park in Escondido (the same location as the Escondido Renaissance Faire) and a more formal adult show at Theatrx, also in Escondido.

Yeah, it's a 2 hour drive each way, but it's the Belles! I like this group of people. Not only are they a very good act, but they are professionals, they are entertaining and they are just damn nice people.

Anyway, I arrived at the Felicita park location and after a few minutes of searching found the Belles in an isolated area in the back. They had set up a small stage and a couple of video cameras and were getting ready to do their filming.

As they rehearsed, I took lots of pictures, which you can see here:

Unfortunately, a large group had rented most of the park and was playing some very loud music and making lots of noise. So much so that the taping was called off.

I wandered off and spent the rest of the afternoon at Wild animal park (a wonderful place to spend a few hours) then went to the Theatrx show. I got there early (I always do) but got a great seat in the front.

This show was fantastic. There was a very good and energetic audience, and everyone obviously had a great time. The energy from the Belles was awesome, and I could see how much they all love doing this.

In fact, I would say this is the best performance that the Belles have put on to date.

I took lots of pictures, here:

and I updated the Belles of Bedlam page:

Keep an eye on these performers over the next few years. Any performance they put on is worth seeing, and I suspect they are headed for much bigger things down the road.
