New computer

Thu, July 27, 2006 - 4:39 AM

I received my new computer a few dys ago. It is a Lenovo (formerly IBM) T2500(2GHz) DUO with 2gb RAM, a 100GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1400x1050 LCD, 128MB ATI Radeon X1400, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem and 1Gb Ethernet with Windows XP Pro.

I purchased the additional option of an advanced docking station, which gave me a second hard drive (7200 RPM), a dual monitor board, a 6-in-one card reader, and a whole bunch of USB ports.

It took me less than an hour to set up the new computer with Windows XP and the options I wanted, plus a couple of days to get all of my programs and utilities up and running. Of course, I installed the full Microsoft Office suite, Encarta and numerous other tools.

Once this was done, I moved my four 100gb USB drives to the new machine. These contain my graphics, pictures, files and so forth. Then I set it up to use three NAS (network attached storage drives) which contain even more data. I actually have a total of around 1.5 terrabytes attached to this computer or on the NAS drives.

This is an incredibly impressive machine. It's the fastest system I've used as a workstation.
