Today I took the day off after a hard weeks work and drove out to Joshua Tree National Park. I left at 6am and arrived at 9am. I didn't realize it would be so dang hot - it was well over 100 degrees! So I only stayed for a few hours, took some pictures, and drove home.
Even though it was a short stay, it was very needed. I needed to get out, get some space and breath some fresh air.

Just a word of advice from someone who spent way too much time in the desert while growing up with rockhounds for parents: you want to visit desert places in spring or fall, NOT summer. And ALWAYS take water, even if you don't plan on stopping anywhere, and wear long pants with loose pantlegs, and long socks. The pants and socks are fair protection against snake bites. The water is because you never know when you will have car trouble.
