I was planning on visiting the Huntington Library on Sunday with a friend from the Renaissance Faire, Jocelyn. I love the Huntington Library. It's a 200+ acre complex of art galleries, a library of old books, lots of sculpture and several gardens, and is one of the more wonderful places to visit in California.
I was afraid I'd have to cancel my trip due to all of the chaos going on at work, but I managed to delegate very well and my people did their jobs. I had over a dozen consultants and employees working on the computer system, so I felt it was safe to slip away for a few hours. Besides, I reasoned, a change of scenery would be nice.
It was extremely hot and humid, exceptionally humid. But, as usual, the gardens were wonderful. I talked and talked and talked, probably boring poor Jocelyn to death. She talked also, and told me about her and her husband. I found out he paints fantasy miniatures, which is one of my hobbies as well. In fact, I have painted over a thousand of the little lead figures myself, and have them displayed in a cabinet that I made by hand. As I listened to her talk about him I found myself liking him more and more.
We made a circuit from the entrance, down to the desert garden, across to the lilly pond, skirting the Australian section, through the Japanese Garden and back to the Rose garden, finally ending up in the art gallery and the conservatory. Yeah, the Huntington is a big place.
It was a very low key walk through a wondrous place, which is exactly what I needed after such a long, hard weekend.
I'm finding the process of making friends very interesting. I have never had many friends in my life, and I am learning that, well, I like having friends. It's fun having people to talk to, people who will listen without judging, people with minds and lives and actual real thoughts and feelings.
It looks like this introvert is finally starting to blossom...
All in all, it was a relaxing few hours spent talking with (and listening to) a friend.
Oh yeah, I took a few pictures: www.roseworks.com/2006-07-2.../index.htm

If you're going to try to bore me to death, you are going to have to work MUCH harder than that. :)
I had a great time!

You've made a bunch of friends at faire, you know. I hope all of the pets are recuperating well?

Yes, I know --- that's what I was referring to. I am finding that there is much to like about the folks who I met at the faire and I am enjoying their friendship. Now I have to learn to get over my own hesitation and actually get out and socialize with my new friends.
And my pets are doing fine, and Tabby is not throwing up anymore.
