My Childhood: Kindergarten

I've had a love/hate relationship with schools and learning ever since my first day. On one hand, I love to learn and I like being in a classroom situation with others. On the other hand, I dislike the school environment as I've always felt I was in school to learn and that's it. This, I have studiously avoided getting involved in other activities, which seemed to set me apart from other students. As I said, I was in school to learn, not play.

Kindergarten

I had trouble adjusting to school, as the Conference Summary Sheet below shows.

Richard had a difficult time adjusting to the school situation. He was very withdrawn. His first acts of joining in were aggressive in nature (hitting, bumping, etc.) He now takes part in most all activities. He prefers independent activities rather than group work. He has just recently chosen painting. His small muscle development is slow - I feel this is because he hasn’t chosen to do much small muscle work (colors, cutting.) This might be encouraged at home. He does well in oral readiness - Richard never takes part in musical activities. I’m sure he has learned the songs etc. He also needs encouragement to join us at game time.

Welcome to kindergarten

My kindergarten report card, below, reinforces many of the comments made by my teacher. I was totally uninterested in singing and dancing (I still am), and couldn’t be lured or forced into these activities.
