Science was my passion, and geology was my game. My father helped along my
desires by going on nature hikes with me on the weekends (something I still do
at age 45) and bringing home strange and interesting things from his work and
college classes. He gave me a complete skeleton of a cat (I still have the
skull), bottles containing miscellaneous creatures preserved in formaldehyde and
drilling "cores" (the rocks taken out of the pipes used to drill for oil).
Below, I’ve included a copy of a "Excellence In Science" award that I
received while in grade school.
