High School: Bus Stop

I still don't like taking a bus anywhere and avoid it if at all possible. I do, however, love the train, the subway and airplane travel.

Belinda and I took a bus to school. I remember waiting at the bus stop each morning for the school bus to arrive. It was usually a long, boring wait, even when I arrived on time, because the bus was usually late.

I didn’t like taking the bus to school at all. It was crowded with high school kids, each of whom seemed to want to scream the loudest. Fortunately, the bus ride to school was somewhat short - my stop was the last stop on the way to school. I only had to put up with the other kids for the ten or fifteen minutes it took to drive the five miles to school.

Occasionally, school was canceled because the snow was so deep that the school buses couldn’t be safely driven. Each time it snowed I prayed that school would be canceled - I really hated high school.

Unfortunately, school was only canceled a couple of days each year. This meant I had to trudge up to the bus stop in freezing cold weather and wait for the bus to arrive. Sometimes it was snowing, sometimes it was windy … it was always uncomfortable and very cold.

After Belinda graduated from junior high, this daily ritual became a little more bearable. I was a very introverted young man, and I didn’t like talking to the other kids waiting for the bus. When Belinda started taking the same bus as myself, at least I had someone to talk to.

Since I didn’t purchase a car until after I graduated from high school, I was forced to take the bus every day until I graduated. After I purchased my car, I resolved never to take a bus anywhere again. Except for a couple of times when my car has broken down, I’ve managed to keep that promise.
