High School: High School Graduation Day

Next

To this day, I am not interested in ceremony. I just find all of the pomp and circumstance that goes along with many things to be unnecessary. What I have learned as I have grown older is that others do find all of these events to be important, so I have learned to tolerate them out of consideration for my friends.

Finally, it was time to graduate from high school. After four long years of hell, it was time to bid it goodbye and go on to bigger and better things.

I could have graduated with an A average, except that I was so completely, utterly bored with school that I simply didn’t want to make the effort. With few exceptions, my high school teachers were completely mundane, boring and uninteresting. I found it virtually impossible to maintain any kind of interest for very long.

I didn’t really want to attend the graduation ceremonies … I was tired of the whole thing and just wanted it to be over. My parents wanted to attend, so I went. I believe my father finally had to threaten me before I’d attend. (Of course, many years later and a father myself, I now have more understanding of why this was so important to them. In fact, I really did act like a little twerp).

The less said about this event the better. Basically, I wore my graduation gown (a stupid looking, floor length blue robe) and cap (a really dumb square hat with a tassel in one corner), stood in line, received my diploma and went home. (Man, did I have an attitude or what?)
